Sounds like a familiar story brother! I will try to keep you updated on what is happening as it relates to your area but for right now the two people that came to represent the "Greater Cinci Area" have to rework their financial requests. 70K and 80K to bring teams from a level 3 to a level2 team is TOTALLY unrealistic.

My home department does not pay or give me consideration for the time I participate in the County HazMat Team ot the TAC even though we don't have a departmental team and call my county team for assistance. I also do not get paid for my participation in the TAC and if its a duty day I schedule my FLSA day off on that day. I burn vacation time. HOWEVER sometimes the benifits of being in a TAC out weigh the lack of pay for doing so. My team has benified well and my department / chief has come off looking like an ass. Your departments non intrest in what the TAC is doing may come back to bite them in the backside if what the two individuals from your region presented to the TAC as a plan is not drasticaly modified. Honestly I had to laugh at what they suggested were approprate funding levels to bring level 3 teams to level two or level 1. The state will just not fund such out of line requests. Its happened before.

The Ohio HazMat Technical Advisory Committee meets the third Tuesday of each month in Columbus at the State EMA Office. Were under the ever-watchful eye of Mel House the operations directors for the State EMA and former Fire Chief.
We are the state body that has developed a standard equipment list for Ohio HazMat Teams and established rules and regulations on inter regional HazMat Team deployment and play.
We also are the body that recommends to Mel who recommends to the state Regional Funding levels for HazMat teams based on established criteria of need, sustainability and ability to perform at those levels.
The attendees of this TAC are mostly the movers and shakers of Ohio HazMat. At first we had about 100 people attending the meetings but as soon as work became involved the attendance has dwindled down to a manageable level of workers. We have accomplished quite a bit and anticipate more good things to come. Our HazMat Team TAC Template is being looked at by several other states. That we feel indicates we have done it right.
If your on Cincis HazMat Team you SHOULD be attending the meetings.

Robert,
The TAC Is the Ohio HazMat State Technical Advisory Committee. It has become the driving force in Ohio HazMat. We have quantified and qualified equipment and determined HazMat Team capabilities divided into 3 Types Of Teams. All Regional HazMat spending goes through the TAC via regional reps. The two people I saw at the last meeting were a woman named Brenda and another guy with short hair and a lisp when talking. I think they got an earfull at the meeting when they introduced some very wild financial figures for level II team buildouts.
The Cinci are has not had good representation at the TAC for quite some time so your reps will be on a fast learning curve. I can say that at the TAC we have a cadre of excellent individuals that are moving this topic faster and further than any other TAC. In my opinion were on the cutting edge of HazMat and HazMat Development.
Where are you going to be? I leave to go teach FDNY on the 28th thru Oct.3. If you still have my number give me a call

Welcome to HazMat Ohio Robert. I met your two reps to the HazMat TAC Tuesday. I think they were a bit overwhelmed but we will get them up to speed asap.
Any Questions, feel free to ask
